Episode 75

Craig Maartens is the son of the first “official” professional hunter in Southern Africa. His father Basie Maartens took Elgin Gates on his first safari in Namibia and the last name Maartens is synonymous with hunting in Southern Africa. Craig has picked up the mantle from his father and is a professional hunter himself – and because of his name, he feels a greater sense of responsibility around what a professional hunter operates like, how he represents his community, and how he upholds the ethics of hunting. Maartens, like Vermaak, Kelly, and Knott are surnames that have cemented the hunting industry in South Africa, and it’s our honor to capture his legacy and heritage in this episode.
