New Zealand Venison Food Distribution Program packing ground venison

The SIKA Foundation is working to foster healthy ecosystems by balancing sika deer numbers in the Kaimanawa’s and Kaweka’s. This requires the foundation and volunteers to reduce Sika deer numbers through intentional hunting. Effective wildlife management results in significant organic venison being taken out of the ecosystem and made available for consumption. The SIKA Foundation in conjunction with the Lake Taupo food bank are feeding very needy families in the rural township of Lake Taupo. They work with two amazing organizations to take the meat from its raw form to processed venison ready to be donated to the community. They first work with Farm and Game Meat Processors Taupo Ltd., to get all the venison processed, and then they work with the Awhina Society Inc. (Taupo Womens Refuge and Taupo Community Foodbank) to get the venison into the community.
This project will cover processing and packaging costs, and some administration funding for venison delivery into needy neighborhoods and homes in Lake Taupo, New Zealand. $15,000 is needed over the next 2 years.
